The Armed Forces Committee
The Armed Forces Committee (AFC) represents the medical branches of the armed forces and the reserve armed forces. As far as possible it ensures that medical officers serving in the armed forces are not disadvantaged compared to their civilian and military counterparts.
The Committee works to produce evidence for the Armed Forces Pay Review Body, organises an annual conference for BMA members in the armed forces, land lobbies ministers, MPs, peers and the press on issues of concern to armed forces doctors.
It also works to improve the working relationship with the Surgeon General and his department and represents civilian doctors working for the defence medical services - elected civilian doctor negotiators meet with MoD personnel twice a year.
The Chair of the Committee is Dr Brendan McKeating, a NHS GP in Nottingham and a member of the Royal Naval Reserve.
