Inter-Deanery Transfers (IDT) for junior doctors
An Inter-Deanery Transfer (IDT) is an arrangement for Specialty Trainees to move between UK Deaneries during their training programme, without applying for a new post through the normal application process.
The Junior Doctors Committee has been working with the Department of Health to develop a refreshed, national inter-deanery transfer (IDT) process. As a result, from April 2013 all IDT applications will be centrally managed by the London Deanery.
Although any planned local IDT panels have now been cancelled, there will be a national window at the same time as the anticipated local window in April 2013.
The national process is aimed at delivering a consistent, fair and robust transfer system, it will encompass:
- A single application via an IDT portal of application
- Two windows per year, in April and October
- A national eligibility criteria
- A single communication channel
- An enquiries service for those interested in transferring

The transfer window for April 2013 is now open and will close at noon on Friday 10 May.
