Inter-Deanery Transfers (IDT)

Inter-Deanery Transfers (IDT) for junior doctors

An Inter-Deanery Transfer (IDT) is an arrangement for Specialty Trainees to move between UK Deaneries during their training programme, without applying for a new post through the normal application process.

The Junior Doctors Committee has been working with the Department of Health to develop a refreshed, national inter-deanery transfer (IDT) process. As a result, from April 2013 all IDT applications will be centrally managed by the London Deanery.

Although any planned local IDT panels have now been cancelled, there will be a national window at the same time as the anticipated local window in April 2013.

The national process is aimed at delivering a consistent, fair and robust transfer system, it will encompass:

  • A single application via an IDT portal of application
  • Two windows per year, in April and October
  • A national eligibility criteria
  • A single communication channel
  • An enquiries service for those interested in transferring

Please visit the London Deanery website for guidance and FAQs on the new system.
