Associate specialist named employee of year
21 December 2012
An associate specialist has become the first doctor to be named employee of the year at his trust.
Baher Hussein was chosen as the outstanding individual among 12 employees of the month at Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Mr Hussein was called an ‘unsung hero’ of the urology department where he works, and was selected for always going above and beyond the call of duty.
He told the BMA that the award was ‘a huge honour’.
‘It is satisfying and humbling at the same time,’ he said.
Mr Hussein had been named employee of the month in December last year, after being nominated by staff and colleagues. The trust said he always ensured patients were put at ease, and gave clear and concise information to those in his care.
He was also recognised for regularly returning to the hospital after he had gone home if any specialist nurses were having difficulty with patient procedures.
Trust chief executive Catherine Beardshaw said: ‘Baher was praised by patients and colleagues for the care, compassion and commitment he shows in his work. These are the qualities that make him a valued member of the urology team and a very deserving winner of the outstanding individual award.’
