Trust creates SAS revalidation post
22 November 2012
The BMA has welcomed a trust’s decision to recruit an SAS-grade doctor to take a leading role in appraisal and revalidation.
The Southern Health and Social Care Trust in Northern Ireland is inviting applications from existing employees for the 12-month post, which has been allocated four hours of professional activity time each week.
Trust medical director John Simpson said: ‘We want to give this distinct group a champion who can provide them with the help and support they need with issues that are specific to them.’
The SAS appraisal and revalidation lead will guide colleagues in compiling supporting information for appraisal, and contribute to the development of appraiser roles for SAS grades.
The post holder will also provide support for an SAS multisource feedback tool, and for the development of patient and client feedback to these doctors.
BMA Northern Ireland staff, associate specialists and specialty doctors committee chair Sara Landy said: ‘It is a very encouraging sign that the trust is thinking ahead and proactively involving SAS doctors at this early stage of revalidation, and we hope that other trusts will follow this example of good practice.’
