It’s February already so for emergency medicine that means ‘all change’. Just as the last lot of trainees were getting fed up with working every weekend, and had lost contact with life as they had known it, the music stops in the training version of musical chairs and a new batch is released.

A Christmas Carol redux

Dear Mr Chancellor

My mum thinks I should write to apologise for calling you a miserable rogue. Apparently, it’s not all your fault after all, and you were only trying to do your best. That’s what my English teacher wrote on my end of term report, so I know how bad you must have been. I’m not sure if I said you were miserable, but I’m very sorry if I did.

A desperate festive shopping spree

Those who haven’t yet finished their Christmas shopping will be ransacking Debenhams (other department stores are available) for a suitable wifely present to exchange for a festive jumper, shirt with matching chinos and a pair of socks.

Redefining disability

This week, I saw a 94-year-old who arrived in a wheelchair, pushed by her son. She had fallen and injured her wrist. Before discharge, I asked her about home support, and she told me that she was quite independent and didn’t need any help.
