We take privacy issues seriously and we are committed to protecting your personal information. This privacy policy explains what information is being collected about you, how personal information is being used, to whom personal information is being disclosed and how this personal information is stored and protected. What information is being collected?

If you register with our website, register for BMA events or services or apply for BMA membership you will be asked to submit personal information. This may include your name, surname, your BMA membership or GMC registration number, date of birth, post code and email address. For other services, we may require further personal details. We gather this information to allow us to process your registrations, applications or any services you require.

By using our website (whether you are a registered user or not), our webserver collects certain information (through log files or cookies) such as:

  • IP addresses
  • host names
  • domain name
  • the time and date information is requested
  • the browser version and platform when information is requested
  • a record of which pages have been requested.

We use the webserver information to produce visitor statistics in relation to which pages are being accessed. We may also use it to monitor usage patterns on this website in order to improve navigation and design features to help you get information more easily. This information is collated and provided to us as daily log files. In order to help us develop our website and our services we may provide such information to third parties. These statistics will not include information that can be used to identify any individual.

 

How is personal information being used?

If you are a registered website user, a BMA member or someone we have provided services to, we may use your personal information to communicate with you generally (including for the purposes of marketing) so that you can get the most out of the services that the BMA provides.

The information you submit to us for membership will be held by us to administer your membership record, inform you of campaigns, promotions and offers, and fulfil our obligations to you as a BMA member.

 

To whom will personal information be disclosed?

We may disclose your personally identifiable information to our agents or selected third parties, who will be bound by duties of confidentiality, for the purposes of fulfilling our membership obligations to you – we or they may contact you about these.

You may also be aware that the BMA has put in place arrangements with affinity partners who provide a range of services to BMA members. From time to time, the BMA may provide members' information to affinity partners to enable them to contact you or send you information in relation to products and services which may benefit you and your career.

If you do not wish to receive such information, you may indicate this on your application or registration form or at any time by logging into the My BMA details section of the website. We may also disclose your personally identifiable information to other third parties unless you have indicated that you prefer us not to do so, in which case we will not unless we are required to do so by law.

 

How is personal information stored and protected?

Keeping your personal details private is very important to us. On our website there are certain areas where you can transmit bank, credit card or debit card details in order to purchase a product or service. Such details are transmitted in an encrypted manner via a Secure Socket Layer (SSL). Similar details collected through other sources (for example by telephone or surface mail) are stored in accordance with relevant legislation. No financial details are passed to third parties without your explicit permission or unless we are required to do so by law.
