Doctors taking action on climate change

Climate Week 4 - 10 March 2013

Climate Week 2013 took place during 4 - 10 March. Over 3,100 events were registered and it is thought that over half a million people took part. Hopefully the events will inspire people to carry on taking action in the future.

The BMA have signed the Climate Week Declaration urging the government to act.

Climate change - what can doctors do?

You can play an important role in informing your patients and the public about the need to take action on climate change, and the health benefits of doing so.

Help your patients to improve their health and lower their carbon emissions by encouraging them to:

  • walk and cycle more (as this will reduce motor vehicle use and increase exercise levels)
  • eat less meat (as this will reduce carbon emissions associated with livestock farming and provide substantial cardiovascular health benefits through an improved diet)
