European elections 2014

EU flagThe role of the medical profession in helping to secure a healthy future is becoming increasingly important as healthcare systems across Europe struggle to cope with the demands of ageing populations and financial austerity.

The European Parliament has a crucial role to play in safeguarding patients’ interests and guaranteeing quality standards of care.

The UK component of the eighth European Parliamentary elections will be held on 22 May 2014. A total of 73 Members of the European Parliament (MEP) will be elected from the UK.

BMA European Election Manifesto

BMA EU election manifesto 2014

As MEPs are able to make decisions that can improve their constituents’ health, the BMA has created a manifesto to inform MEPs of the areas in healthcare we believe deserve the highest priority. Constituents' health is their business.

Doctors’ expertise and professionalism must play a greater role in the development and delivery of all policies that impact upon the health of Europeans.
Their health is our business.

Our manifesto outlines three key areas for action:

  • Improving Public Health
  • Securing Patients’ Rights & Safety
  • Championing a Professional Workforce

As the voice of doctors, we are committed to improving the health of people in the UK and across Europe.

Together, we can work to make a healthier Europe everybody's business.
