Today, we’re coming together to celebrate NHS Overseas Workers Day and honour the invaluable contributions of International Medical Graduates (IMGs) who make up a vital part of the NHS workforce.
The BMA is proud to take part in this day to recognise and celebrate our international members and the significant role overseas workers play in the NHS’s success.
With over 130,000 IMGs in the UK, making up 41% of the workforce, IMGs are essential in the delivery of healthcare and in providing expert care to patients across the UK.

The Doctor podcast
Throughout its history, the NHS has depended on overseas staff, including IMGs (international medical graduates), who come from around the world to care for patients.
In this episode entitled 'From all corners', Somto Ogbuagu, Lisa Rampersad and Marvee Zakaria discuss their experiences, insights and advice for other IMGs – from the difficulties of being far from family during the COVID-19 pandemic, to the difference in workplace culture and the shock of the British weather.
Listen now – and don’t forget to follow us to be the first to find out when a new episode drops on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.
