Isle of Man doctors have voted to accept the pay offer successfully negotiated by the BMA, formally ending the months-long dispute.
In a referendum that closed Monday, 27 January 2025, 114 of 125 doctors who voted on the referendum voted to accept the pay offer, paving the way towards pay restoration for doctors employed by Manx Care, the island’s healthcare provider.
Senior doctors will receive an 8% pay offer backdated to 1 April 2023 for last year. For 2024/25 they will also receive 8% with 6% backdated to 1st April 2024 and the remaining 2% effective from 1st February 2025.
Meanwhile resident doctors on the island will see their base salaries matched to the same level as their mainland counterparts in NHS England.
Commenting on the ballot result, BMA chair of the Isle of Man Medical Society Dr Prakash Thiagarajan said: “Industrial action was a last resort and I’m glad we were able to successfully negotiate this outcome and take the first major step towards pay restoration. I’d like to once again extend my thanks to the Manx Industrial Relations Service, the Chief Minister, and the Minister for Health and Social Care.”
BMA chair of council Prof Phil Banfield said: “After successful negotiations by the BMA, we're pleased that this deal puts Isle of Man doctors on track to begin restoring their lost pay. Improving the lives of doctors is paramount and this deal demonstrates a commitment to valuing their skills and expertise. This shows us what doctors can achieve when we stand and organise together."
