This is a free one-day event which offers the opportunity to discuss issues that affect retired members. The theme this year is: feeling valued and giving back.

What to expect from this event

You can choose whether to attend the hybrid event online, or in person at BMA House.

However you choose to attend, motions debates will offer the opportunity to influence the work of the BMA retired members committee in areas such as improving the BMA retired member experience; representing members returning to work to support colleagues in tackling the NHS backlog and providing guidance on the ever-changing pension rules.

 

Key speakers

The 2025 conference will be chaired by Mr Surjait Singh with the support of deputy chair, Dr Tom Kane.

And there will be a structured debate of motions and presentations on the theme ‘Feeling Valued – Giving Back’ from the following speakers:

  • Anna Rowland, GMC Assistant Director of Fitness to Practise Policy and Business Transformation, on the GMC’s mentoring toolkit
  • Peter Curry, BMA retired members committee chair on physician assisted dying and the committee's plans
  • Phil Banfield - BMA council chair
  • Mary McCarthy - BMA president
  • Bhavin Visavadia - RCSeng council member
  • Michael Dawson - BMA Doctor support service.

 

Elections

Conference will also elect representatives to the 2025 Annual Representative Meeting (ARM) and to the Retired Members Committee. Deadline for nominations is 5pm Friday on 7th February 2025.

 

Eligibility

To be eligible to attend you must be recorded on the membership database as being permanently and predominantly retired from all medical practice.
