Consultants guide to strike action in Wales

Find out more about striking as an NHS consultant in Wales.

Our aims

Following the first and final offer to us of 5%, consultants in Wales have voted in favour of taking strike action over pay. We are calling on the Welsh Government to provide sufficient funding to enable discussions around an uplift in senior doctor pay that will retain existing doctors and ensure that we are able to recruit more.

Read more about our campaign to restore consultant pay.

On strike days we call on consultants not to attend work with the exception of those providing ‘Christmas Day’ cover.

The form of consultant industrial action

We are calling for Christmas Day levels of cover on strike days. This level of cover would ensure that emergency care would continue to be provided, but elective or non-emergency work would be cancelled.  To that end, we are working with NHS employers on precise staffing levels and will update this guide prior to strike days.
