Departmental circulars
In Northern Ireland, the Department of Health is responsible for informing HSC (health and social care) trusts of all changes to pay and terms and conditions for hospital medical and dental staff and doctors in public health medicine and the community health service, as well as staff covered by Agenda for Change.
This information is contained in departmental circulars which provide information on, amongst other things, uplifts to national salary scales, fees, and certain other allowances (such as mileage rates). The departmental circulars may also contain guidance for employers.

As of 18 September, all references to junior doctors in BMA communications have been changed to ‘resident doctors’.
Making up nearly 25% of all doctors in the UK, this cohort will now have a title that better reflects their huge range of skills and responsibilities.
